Star Wars fans hope that Jedi master Yoda will appear in Star Wars 8: Last Jedi. One of the highest points of Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens was the return of the main characters from the original Star Wars trilogy. Some of the iconic returns included Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill), Han Solo (Harrison Ford), and Leia (Carrie Fisher). However, Yoda is yet to appear in the franchise. Rumor has it that Yoda might return in Episode VII and a new interview with actor Frank Oz might hint a possible return for his character.
Frank Oz gives a cryptic answer on Yoda’s possible appearance on Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi
In an interview with the Variety, Oz talked about Jim Henson’s legacy. When he was asked about Yoda’s possible return to The Last Jedi, he gave an evasive answer. The actor stated that he felt like a prisoner of war. He can only tell people about his name, rank, and serial number. He added that some people who asked him were his family, in which he told them that he was told not to talk about his character. Oz said that he loves his character and wants to share it if ‘they’ let him.
The answer was not purely evasive but does not clarify the question. With a cryptic answer, it would mean that the production told him to keep his mouth shut to avoid any spoilers from going out. Instead of putting the rumors to rest, the actor’s answer only fueled the rumor even more.
Yoda might return as a Force ghost on Star Wars 8: The Last Jedi
Yoda died in Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi. After 900 years of life, his body retired. There is a possibility that he might return as a Force ghost. A Force ghost was the soul of a deceased Force-sensitive and denied the will of the Force upon death. Force ghost can interact with those who are living but not physically.
The rumor on Oz claims that the actor recorded some voice-over audio for his character. However, there is no scheduled physical appearance on the film’s set. It is possible that Yoda might return as a Force ghost. Some fans doubt that they would see Yoda in The Last Jedi. Still, there is a possibility that the Jedi master will show up in his CGI form.
