Tensions between China and America continues to escalate after the United States deployed an anti-missile defense system in South Korea. This action prompted China to launch a warning about a possible nuclear arms race. As the tension between China and the U.S. continues to heighten, North Korea ramps up its nuclear arsenal.

The U.S. deployment of Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) in South Korea came a day after North Korea’s missile launch. The North deployed four ballistic missiles, three of which landed on the seas inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone.

North Korea’s simultaneous launch of missiles came after the joint military exercise between the U.S. and South Korea. NoKor condemns the joint military exercise, seeing it as a sign of aggression provoking the communist country.

The actions of North Korea prompted the U.S. to raise its defense system in the region. In response, the U.S. deployed an anti-missile defense system in South Korea. South Korean and American authorities stated that the THAAD is a necessary defense against Kim Jong Un’s regime. However, China did not believe that the deployment of the THAAD is all about defense.

Chinese officials see the THAAD as a threat to their military. They believe that the U.S. is truly meddling in the East Asian affairs. Ever since the territorial disputes and conflicts erupted in the region, China condemned the U.S. for meddling in their affairs.

China vs USA: China warns the U.S. and South Korea for ‘consequences’

Ever since President Donald Trump entered the office, China had downplayed some of the disagreements. Unfortunately, the recent deployment of the THAAD only escalated the tension between the U.S. and China. Geng Shuang, spokesman for China’s Foreign Ministry stated, “I want to emphasize that we firmly oppose the deployment of THAAD.” Geng added that China will resolutely take necessary measures in order to defend their country’s security interests. Geng also made an ominous warning that the U.S. and the “Republic of Korea” must bore all the consequences that the THAAD deployment brought to them.

The spokesperson did not elaborate on the specific consequences that they plan for the two countries. South Korean authorities expected that China’s retaliation will focus on the companies who had businesses in China.

The new developments on the conflicts increased worries over a possible arms race between the nations. The conflict in the East and South East Asian region continues to heighten due to the recent circumstances. North Korea remains unpredictable while Japan, a long-time U.S. ally, is condemning the communist regime for deploying missiles which landed on their seas.
