The month of January ended on a sad note, as fans were disappointed after Ben Affleck announced that he will not be directing The Batman movie. Although the Oscar winner will still be the main producer and main star, fans are still wondering if there is a more deserving director than Affleck.
It was revealed that Matt Reeves was shortlisted to be the director for The Batman. Reeves is quite known for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield. While he is certainly a fine contender, recent reports revealed that other high-caliber directors are also in the running.
Forbes provided a list of possible directors for The Batman. According to the report, Denis Villeneuve and Matt Ross could be selected to direct the movie. Perennial favorite George Miller is also in contention for the vacant job.
George Miller Was Early To Direct A DCEU’s Justice League Movie
Reeves’ name immediately floated after Affleck announced his decision. The director has received most of the support from fans. However, after Miller was also shortlisted, fans are now divided, giving their thoughts on who is the more deserving director.
Miller was picked to direct a DCEU movie titled Justice League: Mortal. It was set to feature Batman as the main cast. Unfortunately, the project was scrapped although the script by Kieran Mulroney was ready. As Miller has shown interest in DCEU in the past, it is possible that the director will be interested in the role.
Ben Affleck in Charge of Finding a new Director
The Batman is scheduled to be released in 2018. Furthermore, the movie was expected to begin production in spring this year. However, the loss of its director could delay plans for production.
Affleck recently played the iconic character when it appeared in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. The actor reprised the character and recently finished his filming for Justice League. Moreover, he was also the executive producer for the movie.
In a statement, Affleck confirmed that he is also in charge of finding a new director for The Batman. DC Comics COO Geoff Johns will also have his own say. Johns was placed in charge of DCEU after the failure of Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Since then, the comic book writer wrote the screenplay for Wonder Woman, story for Aquaman and is also working on the story for Green Lantern Corps.
