After years of waiting for a sequel season, the Sword Art Online movie is the answer fans have waited for.

To create an anime series is not an easy task as, apart from creating the story, everything is made through drawings. There may be some programs that may help speed up the process, but animations are still made the traditional way.

In Japan, there are a lot of anime seires that get released every month. Despite its popularity in Japan, only a handful makes it to the international scene. One of these animes was Sword Art Online.

It was the story of users/gamers who get stuck in a virtual reality open world game. They get stuck in there unless they make their way up a castle full of challenges. Once the top has been reached, players will be freed from the game.

The anime series already has two seasons and fans are still waiting for a third installment. The first season ran from July 2012 to December 2012, and the second one ran from July 2014 to December 2014. However, the third season is still up in the air despite rumors that it will already follow the original manga material.

Movie In Spring

The latest is that a Sword Art Online movie titled Sword Art Online The Movie: Ordinal Scale. Unlike the anime series, the film is based on the light novels.

Distributor Eleven Arts opened the ticket sales on January 6, 2017 on Friday. The sale started at 12 p.m. PST on the films homepage. Since its release it the limited event already sold out. Other fans are disappointed with how quickly the tickets sold out and are hoping another screening would take place.

The Story

The official synopsis of the Sword Art Online game notes that the story takes place in 2026 when a new virtual reality machine called Augma is developed. This next gen wearable device is not like NerveGear or Amusphere as it does not have the full dive function. Instead it uses Augmented Reality to get players in the game. Thus, is considered much safer that its predecessors.

Asuna and the group have been playing Ordinal Scale, the game made specifically for Augma, for a while. However, when Kirito decides to join them, a darker side of the game gets revealed.
