Denis Villeneuve’s Sci-Fi Arrival has officially joined the Oscar race. It was announced that the movie is nominated for the Best Picture award. However, it seems it will face some tough contenders as well.
Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, La La Land, Hell or High Water, Lion, Hidden Figures, Moonlight and Manchester By The Sea have also been nominated for the award. However, Arrival seems to be receiving massive support from the audience, BBC reported. All nominees also made noise in their own ways.
Unfortunately, Amy Adams did not receive a nomination for her main lead character in Arrival. Media reports have also shared concerns about Adams not receiving an Oscar nomination. An article on Forbes mentioned in the headline that the incident is the “year’s biggest snub”.
‘Arrival’ Receives 8 Oscar Nominations
The Forbes report justified saying Adams “is not the love interest in a man’s journey” unlike movies like Theory of Everything. But in fact, she played the main lead in Arrival. As empowering and inspiring her role was in the movie, it failed to even receive a nomination.
Fans must note that ABC accidentally shared inaccurate information suggesting Amy Adams and Tom Hanks were Oscar Nominees. Since the announcement, Variety reported that ABC has apologized in a latter statement. “The nominees announced by the Academy on Twitter were accurate. ABC quickly identified and corrected the errors. We apologize to the Academy, press, and fans for any confusion,” ABC noted.
Arrival received 8 Oscar nominations in total. The sci-fi movie was nominated in Best Achievement in Directing, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Achievement in Cinematography, Film Editing, Production Design, Sound Mixing and Sound Editing. Arrival will get a re-release in theaters as a celebration for its nominations. Furthermore, the re-release will feature eight minutes of new footage as well.
It is unsure whether Arrival can bag an Oscar this year. However, the movie has already received appreciation for being nominated. Arrival joined the “elite club” by being a nominee. By far, few movies such as E.T. have received Academy Awards nominations .
