After all the hate that Mariah Carey has received from her New Year’s Eve performance fiasco, she received some support from her manager and spokesperson. However, she is not getting some encouragement from an unlikely source — ex husband Tommy Mottola.
According to Tommy Mottola, Mariah Carey should seriously thinking about the companies she is working with. He also lamented the fact that his ex-wife ever thought of doing a reality show, which for him spells career doom.
Mottola To Carey: ‘You’re the greatest pop voice!’
In a letter to Page Six, Mottola claimed that the singer “is arguably the greatest pop voice to come along in the last three decades.” To protect her precious career, she should not be working just with anyone to guide her brand and name. Mottola urges Carey to nay work with “seasoned and respected professionals.”
The letter showed Mottola’s admiration for his ex-wife, which is why he is sad that the disastrous performance and the backlash after needed happened to the singer. For him, Carey is not responsible for the failure.
“What happened on NYE could’ve happened to anyone! Yes, her technical people should’ve helped pay more attention to all of it so that there was no chance of that happening,” he wrote.
Mottola To Carey: ‘Stop ‘Mariah’s World!’
He implied in his letter that what happened to Mariah Carey is not that shocking and should not have such a dire effect on her career. However, she should change the people giving advices on her career because she made some wrong ones.
“My only advice is that she should hire more seasoned and respected professionals to surround her and help her with her career! I would never have encouraged her or guided her to do something like a reality television show!!!!! I don’t get it!!” Mottola said.
He said that signing on for a television show can just ruin her integrity, credibility, and even her talent in the long run. Therefore, people surrounding the star who have urged her to do this must not be that good.
Mottola To Carey: ‘Work with respected professionals!’
Apparently, Mottola wanted someone or some company of Sony’s caliber. “She should take a step back, think carefully and figure out what to do next. That is what she does best.. most certainly none of these issues or problems ever existed with her in her early days at Sony for the first 10 years when she skyrocketed to global superstardom!!” he wrote.
He described Sony as being meticulous in making decisions involving the singer’s career. It was Mottola who launched Carey’s career in 1990 with her hit “Vision of Love.” The two got married 1993, and stayed married for five years. They divorced in 1998.
Mariah Carey: ‘I will still do live shows!’
On her part, Mariah Carey already commented on the fiasco and claimed that these fiascos happened. She is no way disheartened to perform live in the future. She is also very much excited about her career.
“I’m excited about my upcoming tour with Lionel Richie, who everybody loves, and I am doing so many of my hits for the fans and a few surprises too. It will be a great night to come see us with great music; beautiful ballads and so much love and fun,” she told Entertainment Weekly.
