Before X-Men, Hugh Jackman played roles in TV series such as Correlli and Blue heelers. But the actor got his spotlight in Hollywood from the moment he took on the role as Wolverine. However, he recently revealed that it was not easy getting into the shoes of a comic book character.
Jackman talked about his first time playing Wolverine with E Online. Surprisingly, as overwhelming it was for the actor, he seemed to have performed below expectation for a while. It did not go unnoticed as well.
“I was kind of struggling, to be honest,” Jackman revealed at Producers Guild Awards. “It was the first movie I had ever done in America. I was pretty tight. I was nervous. I was average, to be honest, at best. No one was saying anything and I sort of thought I was getting away with it, but I was not.”
On the lighter side, the actor revealed that playing Wolverine was the best part of his career. Furthermore, he is convinced that he has done his best as the character. Fans can be rest assured that Jackman has no regrets playing Wolverine again in Logan.
Recently during an interview with Variety, he also said, “I’m really, really proud of this movie, I was really keen that I didn’t leave the party feeling like I could dance more. I think I’m pretty much danced out, and I had a great time. It’s been an unbelievable ride, but it feels right.”
Jackman fortunately received moral support from Tom Rothman working for Fox. He was able to help the English actor up his game in X-Men released in 2000. Rothman thinks Jackman is the right man for the job.
“He told me that he believed in me, that from the moment he’d seen my tape he had a gut feeling I was the guy,” Jackman recollected. “But watching my dailies was like watching someone put a lampshade over a light.”
Logan is set to hit theaters on March 3. Fans will get to see Jackman play Wolverine for the last time on the big screen. The recently released trailer has managed to set audience expectations higher.
