Levi’s Futuristic Jacket Changes Song on Spotify, Gives Map Updates Right From Its Sleeves

Technology

Levi’s futuristic jacket is not made to simply clothe and warm bodies, the new denim will be an extension of the smartphone. Levi’s and Google’s ATAP division collaborated to design the interactive jacket. It used high-tech conductive fabric that can connect it to any smartphone. The original release date was supposedly on spring but Levi’s and Google announced at the SXSW festival that they will push the launch to a later date.

The product is dubbed as the Commuter Trucker Jacket. The clothing is best worn by people who are on the move and does not have the time to check their phones or even their watches.

Users can change songs or check Google maps via the Commuter Trucker Jacket

Levi’s futuristic jacket will surely become a hit with the current trend. With a simple brush of the sleeve, users can simply pause or skip a song on Spotify. This means what users who are on the go and does not want to get their phones from their pockets can easily change songs. Moreover, users can use Google maps without the hassle of getting their phones out in the open.

When the smart jacket goes on sale, the product will be the first to use Jacquard, from Google’s Advanced Technology and Projects (ATAP). The Jacquard technology helped to create the conductive fabric which can connect to electronic devices. The jacket is simple to use and with one tap of the jacket’s sleeve, it can activate certain functions of a smartphone. Users can even answer calls with a simple swipe on the sleeve.

Levi’s futuristic jacket price

Google announced the innovative Levi’s Commuter Trucker jacket at the Google I/O event in 2016. The smart jacket costs at $350. Although it is not the most affordable price for a clothing, the added amenities in connection to the smartphone places the jacket at an affordable rate. Unfortunately, the jacket is not yet available and will launch sometime this fall.

The jacket has a tag with the size of a button. The tag is responsible for connecting the conductive yarns in the jacket’s cuff to the smartphone. The tag wirelessly sends to smartphones or other electronic devices. Allowing the user to do various actions which include sending messages. Basically, it has similar functions to a smart watch.

The jacket can help resolve some challenges in using the smartphone, like when a user want to use Google maps while on a bicycle. Instead of simply stopping to check the phone, the user can just rely on the jacket to help users reach their destinations. By removing the tag, the garment becomes washable and durable. It looks like a regular clothing but with Jacquard yarns replacing the traditional yarns on the clothing.
