Daniella Pineda, who starred in the TBS series The Detour, will sign up with Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. She will be among the new female lead cast in Jurassic Park 2. Rafe Spall, Toby Jones and Justice Smith have likewise signed up for the film. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will reprise their roles for the next installment.
‘Jurassic Park 2’ Will be Daniella Pineda’s First Major Movie Credit
Variety reported the latest addition to the film’s growing cast. Pineda is a Mexican American actress who played Sophie in The Vampire Diaries. She appeared in the 2011 film Newlyweds, which was directed by Edward Burns.
Pineda was discovered through her comedic YouTube videos that cleverly lampooned women’s issues. She also had a horror film project title Cocaine Sleepover. Jurassic World 2 would be the very first major studio production for Pineda. Seeing her join the cast in addition to fellow actor Justice Smith is interesting. It will give an excellent platform for these two actors to introduce themselves on a wider scale.
‘Jurassic Park 2’ Will Have a New Director
Aside from the growing cast, there will be a new director for the installment. J.A. Bayona will serve as the director for the film. Frank Marshall, together with Pat Crowley and Belén Atienza, will produce the film. Colin Trevorrow penned the script with his writing partner, Derek Connolly.
In the previous film, Vincent D’Onofrio’s character Vic Hoskins turned raptors to become weapons for war. It seemed like Colin Trevorrow liked this storyline to be explored in the next installment. Trevorrow said that Jurassic World 2 will not be about a bunch of dinosaurs chasing people on an island.
According to Trevorrow, the new director, J.A Bayona will bring a different flavor. Trevorrow does not believe the mindset ‘the larger, the better’ when it comes to dinosaurs. He said that people are not exactly looking for the epic-in-scope action sequences.
Trevorrow promised to create a more suspenseful and scarier film. He also said that he wants to have Bayona direct the film. They already built the concept around Bayona’s directing abilities.
Will ‘Jurassic World 2′ Weaponize the Velociraptors?
Looking back to the very first Jurassic Park film, fans saw a character steal a dinosaur specimen. Wayne Knight’s Dennis Nedrey smuggled the specimen off the island to trade with a third party business. He failed to succeed, but it appears that Trevorrow is looking to mold the storyline in that manner.
Moreover, Jurassic World took the idea of using dinosaurs as weapons, specifically the Velociraptors. This was precisely what Vincent D’Onofrio’s Hoskins wanted to do when he saw Chris Pratt’s Owen commanding the creatures. Based on Trevorrow’s statements, it appears like this plot line will continue to advance in the follow up.
Even though the production has not started, fans are excited for the film. According to Cinemablend, Universal recently announced the sequel will launch on June 22, 2018. While Trevorrow said he will continue to be the director, he will also co-write the script with his writing partner.
