The biggest surprise for the heroes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will involve none other than Ego the Living Planet, played by Kurt Russell. Sure, his alter appearance as a planet will certainly leave the Guardians awestruck, but it still won’t be the ultimate reveal in the movie. In fact, even the revelation of Ego as Star-Lord’s father is not expected to be the film’s big moment.
Russell Has A Nickname On Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2 Set
Recently, Comic Book had the opportunity to visit the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 set and interact with director James Gunn. The journalist discovered funny information such as Russell being called J’Son on set. But fans must note that it is just a nickname, and “he isn’t named J’Son in the movie,” according to Gunn.
Star-Lord And Ego Father-Son Relationship Not A Big Reveal Says Gunn
Fortunately, that was not the only detail Comic Book was able to get out of Gunn. The director has confirmed that the revelation of Ego as Star-Lord’s father is not a big reveal in the movie.
“The movie really isn’t about that…it’s not about this big reveal of who the father is. It really is about the story between the different characters, and so it’s not about that reveal,” said Gunn. “It’s not about there’s this big shock moment. We’re probably all going to know by the time the movie comes out. It happens pretty close to the beginning of the film. It’s not something we reveal at the end of the film. So it’s something that’ll come out eventually.”
Going by Gunn’s statement, Star-Lord might find out that Ego is his father by the first or second act of the film. Although their relationship has been hinted to be emotional, it seems like it won’t be the main selling point. Fans can now rest assured that the sequel has a bigger surprise.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017. The movie will introduce a new member going by the name Mantis. The character was recently revealed to have led her life with Ego the Living Planet.
Fans got a first look at Mantis in a teaser trailer. It shows that the character has the ability to read emotions. Recently, in an interview, Pom Klementieff (Mantis) revealed that her character can change emotions as well.
