Fans are excited for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 as the movie will introduce two new characters. Ego the living planet has already been revealed as Star-Lord’s father. However, Mantis still remains a mystery. Although the trailer portrayed her as a young innocent character, there seems to be much more to her.
Pom Klementieff will play the role of Mantis in the upcoming sequel. The character is a new member of the Guardians team. However, her abilities in battle mode have yet to be revealed. Fortunately, the actress was willing to give fans some insight on Mantis during her interview with The Mashable.
Klementieff revealed that Mantis is an “alien” and she spent beginning part of “her life with Kurt Russell”s character (Ego the living planet).” It eventually led to her being “pretty lonely” until she came across the Guardians. Moreover, unlike other superheroes, Mantis has “empathetic powers.” It gives her the ability to learn about people’s “feelings and emotions”.
Mantis Relationship With Star-Lord Will Be A Surprise in Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2
Promo photos and trailers from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 hinted a possible bond between Drax and Mantis. “There is a friendship going on and they just click, you know?,” said Klementieff. In the teaser trailer, Mantis was revealed making contact with Star-Lord (Peter Quill). While she pointed out Quill’s obvious love for Gamora, there seem to be a connection between Quill and Mantis. Unfortunately, Klementieff did not share any details, saying that it will be a surprise.
Mantis Can Learn and ‘Change Emotions’
Fans can be assured that Mantis’s action will be as hilarious as it is prominent to the story. Moreover, unlike the usual fist-to-fist action sequence, Mantis’s fighting skills “is different” thanks to James Gunn’s interpretation of it from the comics. By far, fans have seen Mantis reveal Star-Lord’s “deepest darkest secret”, giving a glimpse of her ability to read emotions. However, Klementieff said that “she can change emotions…” as well.
Fans can read through the entire Q&A interview with Klementieff on The Mashable. The actress also talked about Mantis’s social interaction, possible romance with Drax and other instances. Klementieff also came close to revealing details about her parents. However, her publicist was quick to cut it off saying “we don’t want to get into too much of that.”
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 will be released on May 5 this year. Mantis has already reprised her role in Avengers: Infinity War. The actress also shared teasing photos on Instagram, confirming her role in the sequel.
