The latest GTA 5 online update won’t spell good news for players using mods in-game.

Games nowadays are open-world, which means players can roam and discover new things. One practice that has stuck around is the use of mods, player-made modifications. Although gaming companies know of the existence of mods, not many take action for or against it.

Several months ago, it was rumored that Rockstar Games may release a Liberty City expansion. Some high-resolution images of the virtual city even made it online. Unfortunately, the developers have yet to officially put the city into the game.

Finally, A Mod

According to Game Rant, a recent GTA 5 online update involving the city may be coming to the game soon. The catch is, it is a mod from the OpenIV team, which even posted a teaser trailer on YouTube.

The footage didn’t show much, just a camouflaged cargo plane flying from the San Andreas airfield towards the skyline. The video then shows that the skyline is none other than Liberty City. Despite the excitement it’s meant to stir, there was no release date posted by the mod developers.

According to Kotaku, Liberty City is one of the largest and most densely packed maps in the game.

Proceed With Caution

Although the mod will work and operate with Episodes From Liberty City, there’s something players have to take into consideration.

Getting the latest GTA 5 Online update may temporarily satisfy impatient players. However, GTA Online may ban those who download and use it in the game. In fact, PC users often get banned when they use mods in the multiplayer feature.

Those who don’t want to get banned but want to play the mod will have to be patient and wait for the official version.

“Grand Theft Auto 5” is available on Playstation 3, Playstation 4, Xbox One, Xbox 360, and PC.
