A character from Grey’s Anatomy season 13 will not appear in the next season. Jerrika Hinton will be leaving the hit ABC series after playing the role of Dr. Stephanie Edwards for a few years. Some fans believed that Hinton will carry her acting chops on a different series. Moreover, the scriptwriters never expanded her character’s story line.

As of late, there is no verified story line for Dr. Edwards for season 14. Reports claimed that she will be leaving the show to focus on her other projects. Her best story line from the previous season pertained to her relationship with a patient who died.

The actress played the role of Stephanie Edwards since 2012. She entered the Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital as a student. Dr. Edwards proved her skills in all areas, particularly in Amelia Shepherd’s (Caterina Scorsone) neurological department. Nevertheless, her time at the medical center has come to an end.

Last year, the beautiful actress nearly left the program when Shonda Rhimes cast her for the TV series Toast last year. Two months after its announcement, TV Guide reported that ABC did not pick up Toast. Despite the rejection, Rhimes can still propose it to other TV networks. However, almost all Rhimes’ shows are with ABC and it will be a complete deviation if Toast will be a part of another network. Since it did not made past the pilot stage, Hinton stayed with the medical drama.

TVLine reported that Hinton will take a lead role in HBO’s upcoming series by Allan Ball. HBO did not release the official title of the series. In the new HBO series, the actress will portray Ashley, one of the adopted children of the bishops. The household is multi-racial, which comprised a father, working as a professor, and a mother, working as a lawyer. The couple have one biological child called Colombia, and three adopted ones, namely, Ashley, Somalia and Vietnam.

Hinton’s character for the series was born in the United States. She was embraced by the bishops when her mother died while her father was deported. As she comes of age, she is struggling with her cultural identity. Consequently, Ashley is confused about her own self.

There is no official word that ABC will renew Grey’s Anatomy for a 14th season. ABC had no comment on Hinton’s exit. Grey’s Anatomy season 13 returned to ABC on January 19. Fans can watch the upcoming episodes every Thursday at 8 p.m. ET.
