Earlier in 2016, a report claimed that the Green Lantern Corps will appear in “Justice League.” Since then, fans have questioned whether John Stewart/Hal Jordan will also appear in Zack Snyder’s movie.
It has started speculations that Warner Bros. was in discussion to green light a standalone film for Green Lantern. Fortunately, the rumors turned out to be true.
According to a report by Deadline, Warner Bros. has approved the Green Lantern Corps for production. Moreover, the studio has brought in David Goyer and Justin Rhodes to write the script for the space patrol DC movie.
Green Lantern Confirmed To Release In 2020
David Goyer has worked on several DC movies as a screenwriter. Goyer is mostly known for writing the story of Christopher Nolan’s “Batman Begins” and his entire trilogy. Goyer also worked on other DCEU screenplays such as “Man of Steel” and “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.”
The writer also wrote several episodes of the “Constantine” TV series. It looks like Warner Bros. has brought in one of their finest writers for the reboot. Fans can rest assured that the Green Lantern Corps’ story will also be written by Goyer along with Geoff Johns.
Deadline‘s report has already hyped up fans after it revealed that the reboot “is described as Lethal Weapon in space and it’s based on a comic book origin story.” It’s unknown whether DCEU would decide to go with John Stewart as the main Green Lantern for the reboot. But an actor is already campaigning to play the character.
‘Batman v Superman’ And ‘Man of Steel’ Screenwriter to Write Story
Sterling K. Brown recently revealed that he would be interested to play the role. The actor tweeted, “if you are looking for someone to play John Stewart, I humbly submit my name.” Fans can check out his tweet below.
Brown’s tweet suggests that Warner Bros. might have decided to go with the John Stewart version. However, it’s possible that the actor is just trying to gain momentum on the internet and persuade fans to fan-cast him as well.
Green Lantern has been scheduled to release on July 24, 2020. But the release date is subject to change.
