European Council president Donald Tusk has referred to Donald Trump as a threat to the European Union. He called the American president a threat along with Russia, China and radical Islamic groups. He said that Trump could bring dangerous challenges for the union.
Donald Trump: American President Threat to Europe
Tusk wrote an open letter and delivered it to leaders of the 27 member states. In that letter, Tusk included the new American president. He gave a call for political unity before a summit in Malta later this week. In the summit, Europe’s leaders of states will gather to talk about the future of the union.
The letter talked about the deep concern in Europe as Trump is a known supporter of Brexit. Furthermore, the letter discussed Trump’s ban on refugees and people from many Muslim countries. Tusk also asked to implement “spectacular steps” to strengthen the continent’s integration.
Moreover, Tusk wrote about the assertiveness of China. He also tackled the aggressiveness of Russia, Reuters reported. In addition, he wrote about the activities of radical Islam giving rise to anarchy in the Middle East and Africa.
Finally, Tusk wrote that Trump made alarming statements. “The disintegration of the European Union will not lead to the restoration of some mythical, full sovereignty of its member states, but to their real and factual dependence on the great superpowers: the United States, Russia and China,” Tusk wrote. “Only together can we be fully independent.”
Meanwhile, Prime Minister of Britain Theresa May faced vehement protests over her denial to condemn Trump’s immigration ban. European leaders were absolute in criticizing the travel ban imposed by Trump. However, May was denounced for her unhurried response to the events.
Donald Trump a Threat to His Own Country
Trump administration was sued in Washington, Massachusetts and New York. The administration was sued over the executive order immigration and refugees ban. New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman stated that lawyers including attorneys general, were having an “awakening” about the Trump administration, TIME reported.
“This is a president who does not have respect for the rule of the law,” Schneiderman said. “That’s something that bothers a lot of people.” While Trump was elected president, Democratic state attorneys general have formed a wall of resistance over Trump’s immigration stance and other issues.
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson file a lawsuit against Trump’s executive orders. Ferguson said that it was his responsibility, as attorney general, to defend the rule of law. He said that it is his job to uphold the constitution on behalf of the people of this state.
