Disney held the company’s annual shareholder meeting last March 8, at the Colorado Convention Center in Denver, Colorado. The company lets the shareholders see a glimpse of some footage from the upcoming 2017 films. One of the footage includes Thor: Ragnarok. The footage teased a possible important plot point for the film.
Disney shared a footage of Thor: Ragnarok during the annual shareholders’ meeting
Disney treated the shareholders to coffee, tea, and bottled juices. The annual meeting started with a sizzle reel, explaining the values, ideals, and goals of the company. Following the reel are some quick snippets of new films, as well as TV shows and sports.
The footage of Thor: Ragnarok showed Cate Blanchett’s character, Hela, holding the Mjolnir. Hela held the Mjolnir with the handle horizontally, which is extended away from her. For most Marvel fans, they are aware with the inscription on the Mjolnir’s side, “Whosoever holds this hammer, if he is worthy, shall possess the power of Thor.” It would mean that whoever wields it must be worthy. If the villainous Hela took hold of it, it would mean that the hammer was not with Thor.
The description for the footage stated that Hela did not typically wield it. She is holding the hammer’s head and the handle extended away from her. Seemingly, she could have caught the hammer when Thor threw it at her.
Fans argued that Hela is not worthy to lift the hammer. However, as the avatar of Death and ruler of the afterlife called Hel, fans cannot dismiss the fact that she is powerful.
Another interesting point in the footage included the possible fate of Chris Hemsworth’s character. Some details of the film’s plot hinted that Thor and his hammer will not be together before he will arrive in Sakaar. Since Loki disguised as Odin and assumed his role, it could possibly lead to the reason why Thor will be exiled.
Thor and Hulk will battle it out
Several shots from the footage also depicted Thor and Hulk wearing their gladiator garb. The two seemed to be preparing to battle on the planet of Sakaar for the entertainment of the Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum). Another shot also showed Thor putting his helmet on while turning the side pieces of the helmet from horizontal to vertical. Additionally, some set photos showed that Thor will be sporting a new and shorter haircut.
The new plot of the film detailed the important events of Ragnarok. Fans last saw at the end of the Avengers: Age of Ultron. He flew off wondering who could be the responsible for manipulating the Avengers. Eventually, he learned of the trouble in Asgard. His brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), impersonated their father and assumed the leadership role. Loki’s leadership caused the re-emergence of the imprisoned Hela.
After the initial encounter with Hela, Thor was blasted to Sakaar, described as a barbaric planet under the rule of the Grandmaster. Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson) is a warrior hiding in Sakaar, brings Thor to the Grandmaster who forced him to be a gladiator. This is the reason why Thor will sport a new haircut in Ragnarok, as well as the loss of his hammer.
