Since Ben Affleck walked away from his directorial position in The Batman, Warner Bros. is now on a mission to begin the project on a clean slate. Affleck is also on board in finding a new director. Unfortunately, though, recent changes seem to have entirely affected the scripting process.

The earlier script by Affleck and Geoff Johns was recently rewritten by Chris Terrio. Details of the original script has gotten fans questioning if the new version can surpass expectations. Thanks to a recent report by Forbes contributor Mark Hughes, the villains likely to appear in the movie have been revealed as well.

The Joker and Deathstroke Were Villains In Original Script of The Batman

“The story for The Batman originally included the assassin Deathstroke as a main villain, with Joe Manganiello cast in the role, as well as a few other likely villainous appearances by characters including the Joker, according to sources familiar with the project,” said Hughes via Forbes. Going by the report, it looks like the rewrite might have changed the entire adaptation.

It is currently unknown whether Manganiello’s Deathstroke is still the main villain in The Batman. Moreover, it is unclear if the studio still plans to introduce Gotham villains such as Deadshot, Penguin and others. Earlier ideas for The Batman seem to have faded away. After all, Hughes wrote, “Word is the project will essentially get a fresh start once a new creative team has been put together.”

Release Date Possibly Delayed To 2019

DC Comics COO Geoff Johns is looking over the DCEU projects that went into production after Batman v Superman. It’s possible he would once again be part of The Batman creative team. If so, perhaps Jared Leto’s Joker may have a prominent appearance in the film since “he seems to have softened his stance lately and appears interested in a possible return,” according to Hughes.

The Batman was earlier slated to release in 2018. However, due to the recent turn of events, it has been suggested that it could be delayed until 2019. Fortunately, fans will get to see the Caped Crusader lead a team of DC superheroes in the upcoming Justice League.
