The NVIDIA SHIELD K1 tablet will receive the Android 7.0 Nougat update. NVIDIA confirmed the news on its Google+ account. The company announced that the update will be out within a few weeks. It is expected that the Nougat update will hit the NVIDIA tablet by February or March.

The Android N will come not only to K1 tablets but to other NVIDIA units as well. The public received the announcement with approval and support to the decision. The company received commendation for its continuous support to its older devices. NVIDIA will release newer devices but wanted to update the older units as well.

NVIDIA Shield K1 Tablet Android 7.0 Nougat Update Bringing new Features

According to Slash Gear, the update will bring new features to the NVIDIA K1 tablet. The updated software will optimize the performance of the tablet. NVIDIA tablet owners will receive additional multi-tasking features, including the split screen functionality.

Tablet sales are dwindling, which forced manufacturers to look for ways to boost the demand. The multi-tasking feature will bring split-screen experience, which shall emulate a PC experience. It will also allow attachable keyboards to the tablets, helping users with their workday tasks.

The K1 tablet doubles as a gaming machine when connected to a Shield controller and GeForce NOW game-streaming service. Android Authority stated that the unit costs $199. The K1 tablet has a Full HD 1080p, 8-inch display. It also has two front-facing speakers. The Nvidia Tegra K1 powers the unit. The processor comes with the 192-core NVIDIA Kepler GPU and a CPU quad-core of 2.2 GHz.

The company did not release detailed information about the update. It is not clear whether the 2014 version will get the update. The company only confirmed the Nougat update for the 2015 version.

Consumers are elated with the new announcement from NVIDIA. Some people were prompted to grab their own NVIDIA gear due to the company’s dedication to update and support for its older models. Aside from the update, a new game became available to the unit. No Man’s Sky is now available on the K1 device for $59.99. 

The company also brought the Nougat to the Shield TV. It can now stream Amazon Video and play NVIDIA Games Apps. There are speculations that NVIDIA might add this feature to the K1 tablet, but the company has not confirmed the rumors.
