The 2017 Kia Niro has achieved a new feat. The Niro model attained the Guinness world record for the lowest fuel consumption by a hybrid vehicle driving across the United States.

How the 2017 Kia Niro Achieved Guinness World Record

According to CarScoops, Wayne Gerdes and Robert Winger drove the new hybrid SUV. During the U.S. coast-to-coast trip, the drivers exchanged places while the other one rested. Created as a hybrid model, the Niro 2017 was envisioned on a new eco-car platform.

Consequently, the new record-setting achievement involves an incredible 76.6 miles per gallon in the 3715.4 mile trip. Furthermore, the car only required 48.5 gallons, equivalent to 183.5 liters.

Kia Motors America’s Vice President Orth Hedrick said that the company is pleased with the record-breaking performance. Hedrick stated that they are aiming to build a vehicle that provides real-world utility.

2017 Kia Niro Reflects Company’s Achievement

Express UK reported that the company has set out to build a car with great design and mileage. Kia’s VP sees the Guinness World Record title as a confirmation to the company’s achievement.

The car’s hybrid powertrain fuses the four-cylinder liter petrol engine with an electric motor. The car combines the 103 hp petrol engine to the 43 hp electric motor. As a result of this combination, the hybrid has the 146 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque. The new model has a six-speed dual-clutch transmission instead of utilizing the traditional CVT. It has a lightweight battery pack with a 1.56kWh capacity.

Kia also boasted various driver systems such as the Blind Spot Detection and Autonomous Emergency Braking. The Niro will go on sale during the first quarter of 2017. The car’s price range will start at $26,129.28 (£21,295).
